Quantum Leap: The Effects

Anyone got any ideas how to recreate the effects done on 'Quantum Leap', the old American Time-travelling TV show? Especially, the holograms, 'white door' and leap effect?

If you have any ideas... please post them here. It's for a new project I'm working on!
